mr. macgregor doesn't stand a chance

something is digging into my squash and zuccinni vines and killing my plants from the inside out. i have already lost several plants... one i cut down and found little black bugs throughout the vine, and the other wilted. there were evenly spaced red eggs on the tops of leaves this morning. i think i might have both the squash bug and the border vine. check out this article: http://www.ca.uky.edu/entomology/entfacts/ef314.asp. i didn't find any of those grubs, just the sawdust and holes in the vines. next year, i may have to treat the soil with insecticides because i have grown a total of 2 squash and 4 zuccinni, when two years ago in cary, i had more squash than i knew what to do with.
