Silent Nights in Downtown Raleigh
Awhile back I posted about the late-night noise emanating from downtown Raleigh. Turns out it was the Cargill soybean plant. After fuming for weeks, I finally called them. They returned my call, but I missed it. After several more weeks of fuming, I called the number they left me and got hold of Joe P. Nice man. He was concerned about the noise and said he'd look into it. That night I heard the noise again, but several weeks passed with no noise. I gave Joe P a call to thank him for whatever he did. It turns out they did some maintenance on a fan in the air conditioning section which seems to have solved the problem. It looks like I am done fuming about the plant. Now, I am just waiting for the summer concerts at Walnut Creek.

I'm glad you took action! And that you got some positive results. Rest up for the summer concert series... I've thought about you lately - I swear every car that drives by with its music up loud, or every door slam, ever dog bark - my neighbors are driving me crazy with noise!
ReplyDeleteI know this sound well... I live right downtown on W. Morgan St. and have been almost panicked with frustration at a sort of deep hooting/humming sound that comes at night in pulses. It has haunted me for years. I thought at first that it must have been one of my downstairs neighbor's appliances or fish tank pumps or something, but I never looked into it - but YOU did, and now it's gone! Thank you! :D
ReplyDeleteAmy, I am sorry that annoying sounds make you think of me. Hopefully they are just thoughts of empathy.
ReplyDeleteNieta, I'm glad to know I wasn't alone in my insanity and glad I could help. Joe was actually the one who figured it out. He rode his bike down MLK during the superbowl half time show. The officer that later answered our noise complaint told Joe never to do that again!
How satisfying to resolve such a frustrating issue! I wish you had been around last summer when I lived next door to the barking dog. It drove me nuts. Happy silent sleeping!
