Some of the great features of this park are an indoor kids play kitchen and exhibits, large open areas and walking paths, a pond with geese, goats, a large fenced herb garden, and more cotton gin equipment than I could ever ask for. They host various events throughout the year, the next one is a storytelling event late in September. I look forward to going more in the fall and letting Daniel run around in the fields.
Regan and Gibson hung out with us yesterday, and Gibson and Daniel played together (near each other?) pretty well... except for Daniel's ninja moves with the broom. I enjoy hanging out with friends and seeing how they choose to handle kiddie fights. My tendency is to let them duke it out, but Regan runs great interception. The little wooden knife was a point of contention until Regan showed Daniel the wooden spoon.
Letting them duke it out or running interference - the difference btwn raising a boy and raising a girl?
ReplyDelete(that's not rhetorical, i'm genuinely asking) :)
I want to go here! So far Oscar totally takes a beating. But, to his credit he doesn't exactly move yet. I am sure he will dish out his share of duking soon enough :-)
ReplyDeleteWhitney - I think it somewhat depends on how the two measure up in size/age/etc and their ability to defend themselves. When Daniel was just starting to walk, I was all about chasing down that older kid who was hitting him with metal spoons. D & G were just playing a little tug-o-war with the kitchen knife (play knife), so I was just gonna wait and see. By the way, G got the knife away from him. She's a girl, and she's smaller.
ReplyDeleteoak view is right down the road from us so i keep up with their current events by all of their signs. i hadn't heard of it until about 3 years ago. my parents, eric, & i visited it & wandered around.
ReplyDeletethen december 2007 we ventured out for the old-fashioned holiday gathering they have in early december, complete with hayrides, horse/carriage rides, hot apple cider, & cookies + the house is open with each room decorated differently to show christmas around the world. great for kids & free to boot!
