He Said, She Said

Me: So I'm thinking maybe I'll just start adding some flax seed to his pancakes...
Joe: What is flax seed?
Me: It's that stuff that's good for you that people put in healthy bread?
Joe: You don't know what it is, but you want to put it in Daniel's pancakes? Couldn't you go with fruit or something?
Paige: No, it's good! It's what all the crazy health nuts put in everything!

Flax seed, anyone?

  1. I used to do that, yes, flax seed is good for you! But I agree with Joe, fruit first? Wish we could be at the party today - Happy Birthday to Daniel - we are still a mucus factory over here. mmm, mucus factory.

  2. Ha! Yes, do it! But you have to grind it first, we can't process whole flax seeds. (You can either grind it in a coffee grinder yourself or buy it already ground.) I add a few spoonfuls of applesauce to g's pancakes, she doesn't even notice. You could get crazy and do BOTH! :) Wait, do you think I'm a crazy health-nut now for being pro-flax?

  3. I put ground flax seed in our bread and often add it to my pb&j or morning cereal. It has great fiber and omega-3s.

  4. flax seed is yummy. it has a sort of nutty flavor. my mom keeps it usually & mixes it in yogurts, cereal, fruit, some breads, & the like.

i'd research before deciding whether to buy whole or ground. i've heard that previously ground has already lost some of its nutrients rather than fresh ground. but check around to see what you find.

  5. You guys are so helpful! I did find a box of milled flax seed up in my flour cabinet. I can't tell if it has expired or if those are just random numbers that look like this past Thursday's date :) I'll have to get the fresh seed and grind it myself next time I'm at Whole foods.

  6. I recommend purchasing whole seeds and grinding them yourself for maximum health benefits (and to be a maximum crazy health nut!). If you purchase ground seeds look for the kind kept in the refrigerated section since once they are ground they can quickly become rancid.

I hope you are adding them to YOUR pancakes as well as daniel's!

  7. There are several vegan cookie recipes that call for flax seed, but Joe, if you're reading this, that doesn't mean there's not also PLENTY of sugar.
