I have several friends that keep bees. My dad kept up three hives for several years. I'm just pondering it at this point and wondering if a 1/3 acer lot is big enough and if a baby and preschooler (and allergic husband) would be safe.
YAY for considering!! We live on 1/4 acre with toddler, baby, and two dogs-- none of which have been stung -- our bees actually hang out in everyone else's yard -- Mark was "supposedly" allergic. He finally got stung after 3 years of beekeeping and nothing traumatic happened. Evidently his allergy is to other bees not honeybees. Would love to talk more bees soon!
ReplyDeletemy sister in law has less land than that and she kept a hive and an allergic husband. however, something happened to the queen bee, so it never came to fruition.
